Consider the following question.
Do you wish you could stop drinking, smoking, spending, gambling, or eating so little or so much?
Anything done to excess can become an unwanted behavior.
The problem with unwanted behaviors is that they can impact you, your family, and your friends.
Unwanted behaviors vary in appearance.
Some are sneakier than others and can result from something that seems under control until it isn’t.
Some behaviors are more socially accepted than others. For instance, drinking and, to a certain extent, smoking are behaviors that are seen less negatively.
It is easier to hide some behaviors, like pornography or online gambling. Not all unwanted behaviors are easy to identify.
There are costs to unwanted behaviors.
That cost includes money, time, freedom, relationships, jobs, self-worth, or confidence.
What is it costing you? Do you even know yet? Is it worth the exchange?
Unfortunately, unwanted behaviors don’t come alone. Often, unwanted behaviors come with unresolved trauma or other mental health concerns.
They are often a way of trying to cope with what life has thrown at you and make promises that they cannot keep.
Therapy can help.
As a therapist, I want to help you figure out what your unwanted behaviors are costing you and identify what you can only accomplish outside of them.
We can work together in a way that is tailored to your needs. There is no silver bullet, but there are proven ways to help if you are willing to do the work.
Hopefully, we can help you become comfortable with feeling comfortable by connecting talk and somatic therapies in a way that makes sense for you.
Take control of your unwanted behaviors.
Don’t let your unwanted, negative behaviors continue to control your life.
Together, we can help you overcome behaviors that don’t serve you well so that you can become the new person you want to be.
A better life, free from those behaviors, awaits you.
